The Setting
Copper Beech is an urban school. It is situated on the Orange Line of Boston's transit system. The children and staff have easy access to all of Boston's
museums and parks via the "T". Some parts of the "Emerald Necklace", Boston's green space designed by Fredrick Law Olmstead,
are within walking distance, and trips to the Zoo or the Arboretum are
frequent in the summer.
Copper Beech's parents and faculty have made a concerted effort to include
green space within the premises of the school. They have created gardens
where flowering trees, bushes, flowering annuals, herbs, and flowering
perennials are grown. Children tend the gardens by watering and weeding.
